Themis is an ancient Greek Titaness, daughter of the Titans Gaia and Uranus, sister of Cronus, the father of Zeus. She was perceived as the lady of good counsel, and the personification of divine order, fairness, law, natural law, and custom. Her name Themis derives from the Greek verb títhēmi, meaning to put and literally means that which is put in place, the divine law rather than human ordinance.
She is usually portrayed holding the Scales of Justice and tools used to remain balanced and pragmatic. Some classical representations of Themis showed her holding a sword, believed to represent her ability to cut fact from fiction.
According to the Greek Mythology when Themis is disregarded, Nemesis brings just and wrathful retribution.
