According to tradition, Pythagoras, a greek philosopher and mathematician who lived in Samos in the 5th B.C., created the Greedy Cup, also known as Pythagorean cup, in order to teach the citizens of Samos the virtue of moderation, equality and justice. While using the cup, one has to make sure that the cup is not filled over the limit, which is inscribed on the inside of the cup, otherwise, its entire content will be spilled.
In the ancient Greek iconography erotic sceces were very commonly depicted on vases and other forms of art, such as frescos (wall paintings) from the archaic period (6th century B.C.), until the end of the classical period (4th century B.C).
The cup is suitable for use (containing wine, water etc.)
