Homer was a Greek poet and bard from Ionia, a region of central coastal Anatolia. His most renowned works are two epic poems, the Iliad and the Odyssey that are considered as the foundations of the ancient Greek literature.
The Iliad is set during the Trojan War, the ten-year siege of the city of Troy by a coalition of Greek kingdoms and more precisely, it focuses on the altercation between king Agamemnon and the famous Greek warrior Achilles that lasted a few weeks during the last year od the war.
The Odyssey describes the ten-year journey home of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, after the end of the war and the fall of Troy.
This bust is a replica of the roman bust of Homer from the 2nd century AD which was also based on a Greek original dating to the Hellenistic period.
