Handmade Attic amphora decorated with geometric straight and corrugated lines, a swastica, which was a symbol of auspiciousness and good luck in ancient Greece, and a meander pattern, symbol of eternity.
Τhe Geometric style first appears in Athens at the beginning of the 9th century. The most prominent decorative patterns of the Geometric style are almost exclusively linear, such as dots and lines formed into angles, squares, triangles, lozenges, oblique strokes. Battlements, zigzags, meanders patterns and animals, such as horses and owls, are also commonly depicted.
