DETAILS | | Magnificent black figured greek pottery, amphora with the death of Penthesilea by Achilles on one side and Dionysus, the greek god of wine, on the other side( British museum 535 B.C.). According to the myth Pentheselea, the Amazon queen after killing her sister while hunting, fights with the Troyans in search of absolution. Achilles kills her in battle and angered by her pride draggs her off her horse.
After removing her helmet the hero realize her beauty and falls in love with her and kills a greek soldier for mocking him.
